Goodbye Note

I’m still wasting minutes
Scraping off our vows
From the worn out foyer drywall
Where we died someday, somehow
It’s as if these crimson dusk clouds
Approached me just to flout
Whilst I’m recovering in the dancehall
Tearing up your bridal gown
There’s still marker scribbled riddles
All across the headboard’s ash
And still the echoing conversations
Slithering beneath our bed
And here, forsaken and forgotten,
I hear the thunderclaps get back
And lodge themselves up in my head
Disguised as everything we’ve been
And I’m fucking deaf

Why can’t I forget?
(Why can’t I forget?)

I’m still swaying quietly
Murmuring this poem
From the branches of our birch
From this rotten piece of rope
It’s as if these crimson irises
Could still see you on the lawn
Mowing promises and searing
Our ever after with brown leaves
There’s a scribbled goodbye note
I left on the bedpost, by your side,
I’m sorry but it’s just four words
As I got nothing left to write
Here, the sunset fills my eyes,
I hear the raindrops run my cheeks
And grab a hold upon my smile
As I feel my feet kicking nothing
And I’m fucking dead.

Why can’t I forget?
(Why can’t I forget?)

(Why can’t I forget?)
(Why can’t I forget?)
