The Shape of Sound
Me, I’m a minuscule drop of rain,
At least it often feels this way
When I happen to catch your stare,
Oh, the lulling of the waves.
Dozed off, coiled up in shame,
I wouldn’t stand a chance
Emulating your stance,
Please, ignore me, hence.
What are my options, then?
I could write more, perhaps,
I could forsake this glass,
Oh, but the courage I lack.
Crumpled up on the desk,
Like the last song I sang,
There’s a whimpering lamp
That seems to mock my accent
Aight, I made up my mind,
I think I’m ready tonight,
I’m in the car driving by the lights
That light the park that you liked.
Would you enjoy the surprise?
I’m second-guessing the lines
I jotted down, are you tired?
Can’t you come down for a while?
Me, I made contact with the ground,
It was a good trip all around,
And, well, I’m quite out of frowns
So I guess I’ll smile drying out.
Through the cracks, there’s a sprout,
Through the sirens and howls,
A voice that slaps me, somehow,
I bow, then darkness,
No you, no sound…
No you, no sound.
