The Better Side of the World

I caught you walking talking on the phone
And you were smiling gliding on the road
As you were leaving footprints in the snow
And on the other end, he’s just another half
So write a letter and better write it all;
Tell him he matters and let him know he’s worth,
Then gather every memory and find the words
For he’s the farthest side but still the better side of the world.

Some days you curse and worsen all the wrongs,
Some days, of course, just force you to move on,
Some nights are poetry, torture and just a call
Under a whimpering light, behind a glistening eye;
And slowly hours and flowers are passing by
And in the shower devoured by lingering doubts
Amongst the noises, his voice’s the only light
Amidst the darkest night of this endarkened side of the world

Rewind to a couple of troubles and months ago,
Stuck in a bubble to juggle your awkward glow
Glued to a side chair in silence and holding on
To catch a side stare and stare back in silent awe
He stopped to say “… the same, d’you wanna go?
Tonight the wind here, in Winnipeg‘s calm and warm…”
He picked his coat and your hopes and opened the door,
It was the widest smile you ever gave this side of the world

And at the largest of landscapes the moon was on,
The shyest, bravest of answers clutched in your palm
Where all his fingers have lingered a little longer
Than an innocent touch, he sketched a smile in a blush
And in the middle of riddles and question marks
His sincere giggles and dimples were all you asked,
Forget the dissonance distance and what your heart
Keeps on shouting inside, this is the better side of the world
