Back Home (I)
It’s been a long fall living on my own,
'Midst wilted leaves and whispered poems of hope;
I used to waste my days, there, scribbling songs,
And blab around the debris I still call home.
It’s been a long winter pacing in the snow
And quietly sighing at the sun we both forgot;
I used to waste my days, there, drinking alone,
And lie around the disaster we called home.
Back home, back home, you’ll find me here,
Beside our faults, regrets and fears,
I’ve kept your bed warm by your side,
I keep on praying you’ll change your mind.
It’s been a long spring getting to know myself,
And look for clues at the bottom of a glass;
I used to waste my days, there, answering back
To the muttering voice of the ghost you left.
It’s been a long summer, frozen and upset,
I stayed up late just to watch the sky turn black,
I used to waste my days, there, on the sand,
I used to waste it all trying to accept the end.
Back home, back home, you’ll find me here,
Beside our faults, regrets and fears,
I’ve kept your bed warm by your side,
I keep on praying you’ll change your mind.
It’s been a long year, I wonder what you did;
It’s been a while since we shared some honesty;
I used to waste our days, there, oh, silly me,
I’m gonna waste a lot of the coming year.
Back home, back home, you’ll find me here,
Beside our faults, regrets and fears,
I’ve kept your bed warm by your side,
I keep on praying you’ll change your mind.
